Evergreen Students Say No to Drugs

  pledge:    Recently, the students and Staff at Evergreen spent a week learning about the dangers of illegal drugs. Students decorated their classroom doors with anti-drug artwork.Teachers discussed peer pressure and ways to avoid getting in situations where drugs are being used. Students recited a pledge and signed their names to it as a promise to stay away from illegal drugs.

 

 

 

Red ribbons were given to the students to wear during the week to show that they were not going to use drugs.ribbon:

At the end of the week there was a special outdoor assembly to celebrate the week's events. There were several guests attending.audience:

 Evergreen School principal Brandon Johnson accepted an award presented to the school, saying,"It was an honor to have all of these guests on our campus sharing such a powerful message with our students. I truly believe that the Evergreen community benifited from this special day." mrj:

 

 

 

 Police Chief Bill Rector from the Bakersfield Police Department spoke to the students about the sad things happening to families in Bakersfield where illegal drugs are used. He was very proud of the students' decision to just say no if they are offered drugs. police:

 

 

 

 

 

Superintendant of schools Michael Lingo was on hand to show his appreciation of our school! lingo:

 

 

 

 

 

 Students and teachers at our school also had some things to say. Ms. Hofman, 2nd grade teacher: "Having a week to discuss how drugs can affect a person's life and the alternatives available to students was important."

boy:  David Hughes, 4th grade student: "When I'm sad I don't need drugs." 

 

 

 

girl:   Elizabeth Chavez, 4th grade student: "I was happy at the assembly because I felt I knew information."
